Your kitten's first vaccines
The core shots, deworming and when to start, for a healthy first year.

Even indoor cats need protection. Viruses can come in on shoes and clothes, and many cats slip outside at least once.
Vaccines
- First combination shot (3-in-1 or 4-in-1) from about 8 weeks, against feline panleukopenia, calicivirus and rhinotracheitis.
- Boosters every 3 to 4 weeks until about 16 weeks old.
- Anti-rabies from about 3 months.
- Yearly boosters after that. Your vet will advise on extra vaccines for cats that go outdoors.
Deworming and fleas
Deworm kittens every 2 weeks until 3 months old, then monthly until 6 months, then every 3 months, or as your vet advises. Use only flea products made for cats: some dog products are dangerous to cats.
Making the visit easier
- Get your kitten used to the carrier at home: leave it open with a soft towel inside.
- Cover the carrier with a light cloth on the way. Most cats feel safer when they cannot see out.
- Tell us if your cat is nervous. We handle cats calmly and give them time.
